Access to the fortress. Stairway and partition wall
Access to the fortress is made by adapting to the irregularities of the terrain and the outcropping of the stone itself on which the construction sits. Its course, starting from a stairway drawn from West to East, is parallel to the rock and is defended by arrow slits.
The archaeological intervention and consolidation of the castle carried out in 2004 homogenized the existing steps and added new ones, as well as a landing in the middle of the section to facilitate the sightseeing tour. In the same way, it was enabled a kind of viewpoint that rests on the retaining walls of the stairway. From this viewpoint, excellent views of the Ntra. Sra. de la Encarnación Church and the square that bears its name are obtained. Initially, the masonry canvas that acts as a railing for the stairway was laid out in a staggered manner. For security reasons, this 'stone railing' was placed in line in the aforementioned intervention.
After the ascent, we access the partition wall, a prelude to the corner entrance. In this place, one of the battlements, previously sealed, was discovered, which allowed better views of the Church square.
Last flight of stairway
Detail of the 'stone railing' in line. Before the 2004 intervention, this railing was stepped. This last section leads to the interior of the partition wall from which excellent views of the Church square are obtained.
Partition wall. Outside view
The partition wall had the task, in addition to protecting the access to the castle, to preserve the fall, since it also functions as a 'railing' of the access stairway.
