Feast Of The Virgin

The current sanctuary of Nuestra Señora de los Remedios that we know of was built at the beginning of the 18th century, after the demolition of the previous hermitage, which was smaller.

The Virgen de los Remedios only came to Olvera, in ancient times, for penitential reasons, such as droughts or epidemics. She did not even come on the occasion of the new temple of the Incarnation being opened for worship (1843). It took 17 years for him to visit her for the first time. It was on February 13, 1860, on the occasion of being, in addition, the first “festive” coming of the Patron Saint of Olvera, due to the recent capture of Tetouan by the national troops. After the corresponding acts were finished, the Virgen de los Remedios was taken to her sanctuary on October 6, 1946.

On August 15, 1966, in the sports field, Our Lady was canonically crowned. de los Remedios, Patroness of the city. Pope Paul VI granted authorization to canonically crown Our Lady of Remedies, through the Apostolic Brief, of May 9, 1966.

Olvereños and Olvereñas, of all ages, accompanied the Virgen de los Remedios on her visits to Olveras and on her visits to the sanctuary. Neither the cold nor the heat influenced these massive accompaniments with which his great devotion to the patron could be observed.

On August 15, 2016, the municipality of Olvera commemorated the 50th Anniversary of the Canonical Coronation of Nuestra Señora de los Remedios.
