OLVERA PARISH CEMETERY WINS THE SPANISH CEMETERIES CONTES
The popular vote awards the Olvera (Cádiz) cemeteries as the best cemetery, Cañete de las Torres (Córdoba) as the best monument and the La Paz de Valencia cemetery for the best history and best open house activity.
The Parish Cemetery of Olvera wins the 2019 Spanish Cemetery Contest in the category of best cemetery, once the jury's decision published this morning on the website of the 'Adiós Cultural' Magazine was known, after an exhaustive verification of valid votes and discounting those that have been produced irregularly and that did not comply with the rules of the contest.
The popular vote awards the Olvera (Cádiz) cemeteries as the best cemetery, Cañete de las Torres (Córdoba) as the best monument and the La Paz de Valencia cemetery for the best history and best open house activity. The Grand Prize of the Jury has been for the Torrero de Zaragoza Cemetery and the one for the best Environmental Initiative for the Abaurrea Alta de Navarra Labyrinth Cemetery Museum, which has also been chosen by a jury of experts chaired by the environmentalist and writer Joaquín Araújo.
The Mayor of Olvera, Francisco Párraga, accompanied by the local parish priest, Juan Manuel Caballero de las Olivas, visited the Olvera Parish Cemetery this morning to express the satisfaction of having won the Cemeteries of Spain contest and to thank citizenship their participation in the contest. Both the mayor and the parish priest have stated that this award is very important for the dissemination of the City of Olvera, and also for the Cemetery itself, which the mayor defines as a miniature white town, 'you enter and you can wander inside, see the streets, its houses with Arabic tiles, in addition to its privileged location on the slopes of the castle. ' He also stressed the incorporation of a heritage monument to the dissemination of the City of Olvera.

The magazine “Adiós Cultural” will present the awards for the 2019 edition of the Spanish Cemetery Contest at the Giner de los Ríos Foundation on October 29 at 11 am. The prizes are 3,000 euros for the best cemetery in general; 2,000 for the best environmental initiative, 1,000 for the best monument, 1,000 euros for the best documented history and 1,000 euros more for the best open-door activity aimed at society. The Grand Jury Prize does not have financial compensation. The amount of the award will be paid to the body, association or person who owns the venue or awarded work after applying the corresponding legal retention.
